November 13 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's environment ministry said on Monday it plans to build two waste treatment plants worth a total of 9.3 million levs ($5.54 million/4.75 million) in the Sandanski municipality, in the country's southwest.
The project envisages the construction of a composting plant with a capacity of 2,623 tonnes per year and an installation for preliminary treatment of waste with an annual capacity of 10,430 tonnes, the ministry said in a statement.
The project is financed by the EU operational programme with a grant of 7 million levs.
"By the end of 2020, the share of recycled waste from households should increase to at least 50%," Neno Dimov, Bulgaria's environment minister said in the statement.
The construction works should be completed in 27 months.
