December 17 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's defence ministry said that it has signed a 78.7 million levs ($49.2 million/40.2 million euro) contract for the modernisation of 44 T-72 tanks for the needs of the land forces with state-owned Terem Holding.
The deal envisages the supply and installation of new fire-control systems, combat control systems, early warning systems, and others, the defence ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
In addition, three MT-LB U multi-purpose auxiliary armoured tracked vehicles will also be upgraded.
The contract has a two-year term.
Earlier this week, Bulgaria's government approved an additional 50 million levs under the defence ministry's 2020 budget for a project for the modernisation of Soviet-made T-72 tanks.
