December 18 (SeeNews) - The transport ministry of Bosnia’s Sarajevo Canton signed a 29.7 million euro ($32.4 million) contract with Swiss rolling stock manufacturer Stadler Rail for the purchase of 10 trams and associated maintenance equipment, the cantonal government said.
The delivery of the 10 new trams is expected in the second half of 2025, while the maintenance equipment will be received in 2024, the government of Sarajevo Canton said in a press release on Friday.
The purchase of the new trams is financed through loans from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank.
The new trams are in addition to 15 trams which the canton agreed to buy from Stadler Rail in 2021 for 34.7 million euro. The first tram was delivered to the canton earlier this month, with the remaining 14 scheduled for delivery by the summer of 2024.
The Sarajevo Canton is one of ten cantons forming Bosnia’s Federation entity. The Federation and the Serb Republic together form Bosnia and Herzegovina.
