BUCHAREST (Romania), July 5 (SeeNews) – Banca Comerciala Romana (BCR) remained Romania's largest bank by assets at the end of last year with a market share of 16.28%, up from 15.8% at end-2015, the central bank said.
With total assets worth 64.06 billion lei ($15.8 billion/13.9 billion euro) at the end of December, BCR, owned by Austria’s Erste, led the ranking, BNR said in its annual report published earlier this week.
Banca Transilvania [BSE:TLV] ranked second, with assets worth 51.7 billion lei at end-2016 and a market share of 13.15%, slightly up from 13% in 2015.
Shares of blue-chip Banca Transilvania were traded 4.40% higher at 2.58 lei as at 1410 CET on Wednesday on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB).
BRD bank [BSE:BRD], majority owned by French financial group Societe Generale, ranked third, with assets worth 50.6 billion lei and a market share of 12.87% at the end of 2016, higher than 12.6% in the previous year.
BRD's shares were changing hands 2.04% higher at 14 lei on Wednesday on the BVB at 1346 CET.
The 10 largest banks had a combined share of 80.3% of Romania's banking market at the end of December 2016.
