June 29 (SeeNews) - Romania's Banca Transilvania [BSE:TLV] increased its market share to 18.46% at the end of 2020, from 17.72% a year earlier, remaining the largest bank by assets in the country, the central bank said.
With total assets of 103.7 billion lei ($25 billion/21 billion euro) at the end of December 2020, Banca Transilvania led the annual ranking for a third time after 2018, according to a Romanian central bank report published on Monday.
Shares of blue-chip Banca Transilvania traded 0.54% lower at 2.7750 lei as at 1126 CET on Tuesday on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB).
Banca Comerciala Romana (BCR), owned by Austria’s Erste [BSE:EBS] ranked second, with assets of 79.5 billion lei at end-2020 and a market share of 14.20%, down from 14.43% in 2019.
Erste Group Bank AG's shares traded 0.29% lower at 157 lei on the BVB as at 1059 CET on Tuesday.
BRD bank [BSE:BRD], majority owned by French financial group Societe Generale, ranked third, with assets worth 61.6 billion lei and a market share of 11.01% at the end of 2020, lower than 11.28% in the previous year.
BRD's shares changed hands 1.58% higher at 17.98 lei at 1108 CET on Tuesday on the BVB.
The 10 largest lenders in Romania held a combined share of 86% of the country's banking market at the end of 2020.

The combined profit of Romanian banks fell by 20% year on year to 5 billion lei in 2020, central bank data showed. The non-performing loan (NPL) ratio of Romania's banking system decreased to 3.82% at the end of December 2020, from 4.09% a year earlier.
The Romanian banks' total net assets increased to 560 billion lei as at the end of 2020, up 13% on the year.
There were 34 banks operating in Romania at the end of 2020, the same number as in 2019, the BNR data showed.
The net profit of the central bank rose by an annual 13% to 2 billion lei in 2020, mainly due to an increase in profit from foreign currency asset/liability management operations and to monetary policy operations, the report also showed.
