December 23 (SeeNews) - Serbia will need nine more months to organize an auction for allocating frequencies for 5G networks to mobile network operators, according to Dragoljub Stefanovic, chief operating officer at the Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Postal Services (RATEL), local media reported.
The timeline will depend on the minimum requirements for the process of holding the auction that the ministry of trade, tourism, and telecommunications will publish, daily Politika quoted Stefanovic as saying on Tuesday.
The regulatory framework for the auction has been created, and network operators have already been allowed to test their 5G equipment, Stefanovic added.
The minister of trade, tourism, and telecommunications, Tatjana Matic, previously said that Telekom Srbija, A1 Telekom Austria Group's Serbian unit, and Telenor Serbia will participate in the auction.
Local media Nova later quoted Milos Stojkovic, representative of United Media's SBB, as saying that SBB also intends to take part in the 5G auction.
