August 2 (SeeNews) - French retailer Auchan, which operates hypermarkets and proximity stores in Romania, said on Wednesday it will open its first supermarket in the country by the end of the year.
The supermarket will have an area of 2,300 sq m and will be located in the capital Bucharest, in the Bucur Obor commercial complex, Auchan said in a press release.
"We are pleased to announce the signing of the partnership with Bucur Obor SA, a partnership that will allow us to take another step towards the development of our proximity trade," Auchan Retail Romania general manager Ionut Ardeleanu said.
Currently, Auchan operates in Romania 33 hypermarkets and four proximity stores where over 10,000 people work.
In April, Auchan Romania partenered up with Romania's top oil and gas group, OMV Petrom [BSE:SNP] to open 15 convenience stores in Petrom filling stations by the end of the year.
Blue-chip OMV Petrom was trading 0.32% higher at 0.3180 lei by 1301 CET on the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
