Exports dropped 12.4% on the year to some 35 billion leks, whereas imports edged down 1.6% to some 79 billion leks, INSTAT said in a monthly statement.

Decrease in the exports of shoes and textiles, foods, beverages and tobacco, and chemical and plastic products contributed to the annual decline.

In May, Italy continued to be Albania's primary trading partner, with Albanian exports to Italy totalling 14.5 billion leks and imports from Italy amounting to 18 billion leks.

In 2023, Albania's trade deficit decreased by 6.7%, reaching 432.3 billion leks, INSTAT has said.
