January 30 (SeeNews) - Albania's city of Gjirokastra, a UNESCO World Heritage site, completed works to improve water utility performance and expand freshwater water supply, the Swiss government, which helped finance the project, said.
The works, part of an infrastructure programme worth 8.2 million euro ($8.9 million), included the construction of a new regional water utility offices, new water pumping station and a new water reservoir to ensure 24-hour drinking water supply to Gjirokastra, the Swiss government said in a press release on Friday.
The German government provided over 7 million euro, whereas the Swiss government contributed over 1 million euro towards the cost of the programme that aims to improve water supply and sewerage services in the municipalities of Gjirokastra, Delvina, Lushnja, Berat, Kuçova, Kamza, Librazhd, and Prrenjas.
