May 22 (SeeNews) - The Albanian government has opened an 83 million leks ($807,700/747,500 euro) tender for a consultant to draft a detailed design for the 40 km Elbasan-Lekaj highway, part of Corridor 8, the government said.
The consultant will have to conduct environmental, social and economic assessments before handing in a detailed design that addresses all the potential issues, tender documents published on the country’s public procurement agency site show. The job should be done within 22 months after a tender winner is declared.
The tender applications should be submitted within June 21.
The section will connect Corridor 8 to the Adriatic – Ionian Corridor, a highway that will link Italy’s Trieste to Greece’s Kalamata, running along the entire eastern shore of the Adriatic and Ionian seas.
Corridor 8 is one of the pan-European land transport routes that stretches from Durres in Albania, traversing through Elbasan, and continuing across North Macedonia to reach the city of Varna on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.
