January 18 (SeeNews) - Dutch-based food retailer Ahold Delhaize plans to keep expanding its network in Serbia, the company CEO Dick Boer said, according to a Serbian government statement.

Ahold Delhaize intends to keep investing in Serbia, the Serbian government quoted Boer as saying during a meeting with Serbian prime minister Aleksandar Vucic on Tuesday.

Vucic and Boer discussed the abolition of fees for donated food, as well as the launch of Serbian Food Safety Agency, in line with the European standards, the government added.

Ahold Delhaize was set up in July 2016 through the merger of Ahold with Belgian sector player Delhaize Group, which entered the Serbian market with the acquisition of the Maxi supermarket chain in July 2011.

The merged company currently operates 210 supermarkets in Serbia under its Maxi brand, 12 Tempo hypermarkets and 253 Shop&Go convenience stores. In 2014, the company opened a logistics centre with 70,000 pallet storage places in Stara Pazova, near Belgrade.
