April 25 (SeeNews) - A1 Slovenija, a unit of A1 Telekom Austria Group, plans to stop using the 3G mobile network as of June 30, it said.
Discontinuing the use of 3G technology is an integral part of A1 Slovenija's sustainability and mobile network development strategy, A1 Slovenija said in a statement on Monday.
A1 Slovenija has built a modern and reliable mobile network based on the 4G/LTE and 5G network and the 3G grid is currently used only by some older devices that are primarily intended for data transfer, the company explained.
Slovenia's largest telecommunications operator, Telekom Slovenije [LJE:TLSG], abandoned the use of 3G in the summer of 2022.
The Slovenian 5G network currently covers about 70% of the country's population, and by the end of 2025 it will be available to 98% of Slovenian citizens.
