March 28 (SeeNews) - French provider of automated airport solutions Alstef Group has signed a 20 million levs ($11.06 million/10.2 million euro) contract to supply a new baggage handling system for Sofia Airport’s Terminal 2, the airport concessionaire, SOF Connect, said on Tuesday.
Alstef will supply, install and maintain the baggage handling solution that has a capacity of up to 2,400 bags per hour, SOF Connect said in a statement.
The project is part of the airport’s overall transformation in which 150 million levs will be invested by the end of 2025.
With the commissioning of the system, Terminal 2 will be able to serve a significantly higher number of passengers compared to its current capacity. The introduction of the new baggage handling system is part of the airport’s development plan, which will allow Terminal 2 to take all the traffic from the almost 70-year-old Terminal 1 building.
SOF Connect invited offers for the procurement of a new baggage handling system at Terminal 2 in July 2022.
