March 22 (SeeNews) - Slovenian car maker Revoz, a unit of France's Renault, stopped manufacturing German automaker Daimler's second-generation Smart Forfour model at its Novo Mesto factory after a partnership between Daimler and Renault fell apart, Ljubljana-based media reported.
The Slovenian car maker was producing the Smart Forfour under Edison project, a key programme for the Daimler-Renault partnership, for the joint production of the Smart Fortwo and Smart Forfour models. In November, however, Daimler said it plans to dispose of its 9.2 million shares in Renault, dissolving a three-way partnership between the German automaker, Renault and Nissan.
Revoz has produced a total of 216,530 Smart Forfour cars with petrol engine and 32,326 units with electric drive since 2014, news agency STA reported on Monday, quoting Revoz sources.
Revoz, which currently has about 2,400 employees, reduced its output by 31% to 95,797 vehicles in 2021. The company's Novo Mesto factory is the only Renault facility producing the third-generation Twingo model. The factory also produces the electric version of Renault Clio.
In January, Revoz said it plans to cut 450 jobs amid a reduction in daily output to 325 from 486 vehicles.
