April 12 (SeeNews) - The state-owned Torlak immunology institute in Belgrade expects to complete the construction of the Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) laboratory at the beginning of 2025, the government said.
BSL-3 is a designation for laboratories that handle potentially infectious materials and organisms.
The exterior of the entire building will be completed by the end of June or the start of July, after which the interior work will begin, health minister Danica Grujicic said in a press release on Thursday.
She explained that the laboratory is significant for its ability to identify disease agents and produce vaccines promptly.
Serbis broke ground for the new facility in February 2024.
The Torlak immunology institute conducts healthcare activities in the fields of microbiological and virological diagnostics, as well as the production of sera, vaccines, medications, and other immunobiological and diagnostic preparations, medical devices, and dietary products.
