April 4 (SeeNews) - The number of tourists staying in Romania rose 1.2% year-on-year to 1.62 million in the first two months of 2024, the statistical board, INS, said on Thursday.
Tourists spent 3.07 million overnights in Romania in the January-February period, up 1.1% on the year, INS said in a statement.
Foreign tourists accounted for 15.6% of arrivals at Romanian accommodation units.
The number of foreign tourists arriving from the EU represented 56% of all foreign tourist arrivals after increasing by an annual 7.7%.
The number of tourists arriving from Asia plummeted by an annual 35.6% to 21,000, while associated overnight stays in Romania slumped by 37.9% to 58,900.
In January alone, the number of tourists staying in Romania rose 4.2% on the year to 847,500, while associated overnight stays increased by 5.2% to 1.63 million.

In 2023, the number of tourists staying in Romania grew by 10.5% on the year to 13.65 million.
