December 7 (SeeNews) - Romania's average sunflower seed yield rose 4.5% year-on-year to 1.84 tonnes per hectare in 2016, according to provisional data from the national statistics office, INS.
Sunflower seed output totalled 1.88 million tonnes, up 7.35% compared to last year, INS told SeeNews in an emailed statement earlier this week.

INS said that final data on Romania's main crops in 2016 will be provided at the end of June 2017.
In 2016, Romania put 1.03 million hectares under sunflower seed, compared to 1 million hectares last year.
In the period 2007-2016, Romania's average sunflower seed yields peaked at 2.18 tonnes per hectare in 2014, while the lowest yield was recorded in 2007, 654 kilogrammes per hectare, according to data posted on the website of the agriculture ministry.
Last year, Romania harvested nearly 1.76 million tonnes of sunflower seed, down 19.7% from 2014.
