February 3 (SeeNews) - Bosnian cable TV operator Telemach has signed a deal with local power utility Elektroprivreda HZHB to use the utility's low-voltage poles for the construction of a broadband network, local media reported on Friday.
The agreement is in line with the European Union's directive on faster broadband development using third party infrastructure, news portal Ekapija reported.
It will ensures the coexistence and expansion of electrical and broadband infrastructure on existing low voltage facilities.
Telemach will reimburse EP HZHB with 1.2 million marka ($658,400/613,600 euro) for its use of the utility's infrastructure to date. As for future use, the two have agreed on a model in accordance with the best regional and European practices.
Telemach Bosnia is part of United Group, a leading cable and pay TV operator in Southeast Europe. Since March 2014 United Group is majority-owned by New York-based global investment firm KKR. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is a co-investor in the company.
