March 14 (SeeNews) - The government of Bosnia and Herzegovina's Federation said it will allocate a total of 24.3 million marka ($13.6 million/12.4 million euro) from its 2024 budget to enhance the air traffic within the entity.
The entity's government will allocate 3 million marka to the Sarajevo airport and 2 million marka to each of the airports in Mostar and Tuzla, aiming to subsidise both ongoing and new flights, the Federation's government said in a press release on Wednesday.
Some 17 million marka will be provided to public enterprise JP Aerodrom Bihac for the construction of a new airport in Bihac. The company will also receive additional 300,000 marka for its operations.
Bihac currently has only a small sports airport. In 2016, the Federation decided to work towards building a bigger airport for civilian flights to help boost the economy of the region. The construction of a new airport could require an estimated investment of some 100 million marka, according to earlier media reports.
The Federation is one of two autonomous entities forming Bosnia and Herzegovina. The other one is the Serb Republic.
