November 25 (SeeNews) - The number of active firms in Albania rose by 22.7% to 104,534 in 2015, the country's statistics office, INSTAT, said.
The combined turnover of those companies totalled 1.82 trillion leks ($14.2 billion/13.4 billion euro) last year, up 4.7% compared to 2014, INSTAT said on Thursday.
The predominant part of active enterprises, or 87.2%, were providers of different services. They contributed a combined 1.2 trillion leks to the total turnover.
Within the services sector, 44,463 companies operated in retail and wholesale trade. Those companies contributed 884 billion leks to the total turnover and employed 25.3% of all employees of active companies, or 109,806 people.
Enterprises with one to four employees constituted 89.3% of the total number of enterprises in Albania last year.
Combined investments made by Albanian companies active in 2015 reached 207.4 billion leks, up 13.5% compared to 2014.
The largest part of the investments, or 28.4%, was made by companies in the electricity and water supply sector, INSTAT figures showed.
