April 29 (SeeNews) - The gross written premiums (GWPs) of Albanian insurers increased to 5.2 billion leks ($55.5 million/51.8 million euro) in the first quarter of 2024, up from 5.14 billion leks the same period in 2023, official figures showed on Monday.
Gross written premiums from non-life insurance inched up by 0.7% on the year to 4.76 billion leks in the January-March period, while the life insurance segment reported an increase of 12%, to 467 million leks, the Albanian Financial Supervisory Authority (AFSA) said in a monthly release.
Total gross claims paid increased by 24% on the year to 2 billion leks in the review period.
In 2023, the gross written premiums of Albanian insurers increased to 22.8 billion leks, up by 8.86% as compared to the previous year, AFSA has said.
The statistics comprise data from eight insurance companies operating in Albania.
