In nominal terms, the average gross wage was 14.7% higher year-on-year in the first three months of 2024, the National Bureau of Statistics said in a statement.
The average gross salary in the public sector was 11,319 lei in the first quarter, up 15.7% on the year in nominal terms. In the private sector, the gross wage was 13,818.5 lei in January-March, up by an annual 14.3%.
The highest average gross salary in the three months through March 2024 was registered in information and communications technology (ICT), reaching 32,372.5 lei after an annual increase of 8.5% in nominal terms. Despite an annual jump of 16.4%, at the opposite end stood the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector, with an average gross monthly wage of 8,201.8 lei. Average gross monthly wages in the real estate sector saw the highest annual increase, of 19.7%, reaching 10,983.2 lei.
The average number of employees inched down by 0.1% on the year in January-March.

The average gross monthly wage in Moldova increased by a real 3.4% on the year to 12,354 lei in 2023.
