The gross written premiums (GWP) of Moldovan insurers rose by an annual 28% to 2.472 billion lei ($134 million/122.3 million euro) in 2022, the country's statistical office said on Friday.
Compensation and insurance payments amounted to 958.8 million lei in 2022, jumping by 46% on the year, the statistical office, BNS, said in a press release.
Moldovan insurers posted a 156.2 million lei pre-tax profit, down by 8.7% from the value recorded in 2021.
Revenues rose by an annual 47% to 4.074 billion lei, while expenses were 51% higher on the year, at 3.917 billion lei.
Premiums from mandatory car insurance rose by 33% on the year to 1.151 billion lei at the end of 2022, while casco premiums grew by 13% to 473.3 million lei.
Health insurance nearly doubled to 123.9 million lei in 2022, while other general insurance premiums increased by 51% on the year to 306.6 million lei. Life insurance premiums grew by an annual 6.1% to 107.2 million lei.
In 2021, the GWP of Moldovan insurers rose by an annual 32.5% to 1.926 billion lei.
