August 25 (SeeNews) - The gross written premiums (GWP) of Moldovan insurers rose by an annual 34.6% to 1.182 billion lei ($61.55 million/61.56 million euro) in the first half of 2022, the country's statistical office said on Thursday.
Compensation and insurance payments amounted to 420.4 million lei during the January-June period, up 34.6% on the year, the statistical office, BNS, said in a press release.
During the first half, Moldovan insurers posted a 161.2 million lei pre-tax profit, up 57.5% as compared to the first half of 2021. Revenues rose by an annual 40.5% to 1.776 billion lei, while expenses were 39% higher on the year at 1.615 billion lei.
Premiums from mandatory car insurance rose by 32.4% on the year to 515.2 million lei at the end of June, while casco premiums grew 12.4% to 211.2 million lei. Health insurance rose by an annual 14.6% in the first semester to 56.3 million lei, while other general insurance premiums surged 86% on the year to 165.1 million lei in the first half of 2022.
Premiums from life insurance on the Moldovan market rose 3.2% year-on-year to 47.6 million lei in the six months through June.
In 2021, the GWP of Moldovan insurers rose by an annual 32.5% to 1.926 billion lei.
