The average consumer price inflation was 28.7% over the last 12 months, compared to the previous 12 months, the National Bureau of Statistics, BNS, said in a statement.

The main inflation driver in December were food prices, which added 31.8% year-on-year. Prices of non-food products rose 19.94%, while the cost of services increased by an annual 43.97%.

On a monthly comparison basis, Moldova's consumer prices rose 0.76% in December. Food prices increased 1.23%, while non-food prices edged up by a monthly 0.02%. Consumer prices in the services sector added 1.17% month-on-month.

On December 5, Moldova's central bank cut its policy rate to 20% from 21.50%, due to a disinflationary trend, aiming to create more attractive conditions for providing credit to the real economy and households.
