July 21 (SeeNews) - Moldova's parliament rejected a vote of no-confidence in the coalition cabinet of prime minister Ion Chicu filed by the Dignity and Truth Platform Party (PPDA) and the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) over what they sees as excessive interference on the part of pro-Russian president Igor Dodon in the governance of the country, data posted on parliament's website showed.
The censure motion was supported by only 46 members of parliament (MPs) of the 101-seat parliament, less than the 51 needed in order to pass, according to data posted on parliament's website on Monday evening.
According to PPDA and PAS, the government comprising the left-wing Socialist Party (PSRM) and the centre-right Democratic Party (PDM) should step down because Moldova needs a pro-European government to organise the presidential elections due this autumn and not a government that only follows the agenda of president Dodon.
PSRM holds 37 of all 101 seats in Moldova's parliament, while PDM controls 13.
The ACUM Pro-European bloc comprising PAS and PPDA holds 25 seats, Sor Party led by businessman Ilan Sor has seven seats, while Pro-Moldova holds six seats. The remaining 13 mandates are held by independents.
PSRM and PDM entered into a non-formal coalition in November, after the coalition cabinet of PSRM and the pro-EU bloc ACUM lost a no-confidence vote and collapsed.
