April 24 (SeeNews) - Moldova's Civil Aeronautic Authority (AAC) said that it has conducted an inspection at flag carrier Air Moldova after the airline cancelled all flights until April 25.
Since November 2022, AAC has constantly criticised Air Moldova for having major financial problems that were discovered during earlier investigations and has demanded that Air Moldova develop a corrective action plan, the aviation authority said in a statement on Friday.
Instead of taking concrete remedial actions, however, the air carrier challenged all control documents and went to court to request their cancellation, the AAC noted. The aviation authority also fined Air Moldova for not complying with its request and prescribed a new inspection.
In a social media post earlier on Friday, the airline invoked the lack of financial resources as the reason for cancelling the flights until April 25. All affected passengers will receive a refund for their tickets, Air Moldova added.
In a subsequent social media update, Air Moldova claimed that it managed to restore some of the cancelled flights, namely the routes to and from Tbilisi, Verona, and Bologna.
Earlier this month, the Moldovan carrier said that it cancelled three flights on April 12 due to blocked bank accounts.
Air Moldova was established in 1993 and currently holds approximately half of the air passenger flow registered on the Moldovan market.
