Moldova's annual inflation speeds up to 3.8% in June

July 10 (SeeNews) - Moldova's consumer prices rose by 3.8% year-on-year in June, accelerating from a 3.3% annual increase in May, the statistical office said on Wednesday.

Prices of non-food products were the main inflation driver in June, rising by an annual 6.8%, the National Bureau of Statistics said in a statement.

Prices of food products rose by 3.8% on the year in June, while prices of services decreased by 1.2%.

On a monthly comparison basis, Moldova's consumer prices edged down by 0.1% in June, compared to an increase of 0.2% recorded in May. Prices of food products inched down by 0.6% on the month, accounting for a decrease of about 0.2 percentage points in average consumer prices. Non-food prices were up by 0.1%, while prices of services ticked up by 0.5% on the month in June.

On June 21, Moldova's central bank decided to keep its monetary policy rate unchanged at 3.60%, aiming to spur the economy amid slowing inflation, it said.
