Eleven commercial banks operated in the country of 2.6 million people as at end-2022, BNM said in a data release on Thursday.
The top five banks generated 87.9% of the total profit of Moldova's banking sector in the period under review.
Total revenues from interests jumped by 89% on the year to 9.67 billion lei at the end of 2022, while provisions' value rose to 733.5 million lei at the end of 2022, from 591.9 million lei at the end of the previous year.
Moldovan banks' total assets increased to 131.4 billion lei at the end of 2022 from 118.5 billion lei a year earlier, according to BNM data.
Moldova Agroindbank was the largest bank at end-2022, with total assets of 43 billion lei, followed by Moldindconbank with 25.8 billion lei, OTP Bank with 18.6 billion lei, Victoriabank with 18.4 billion lei and by ProCredit Bank with 6.12 billion lei worth of assets.
On December 14, shareholders of Moldova Agroindbank approved the listing of its shares on the stock exchange in Bucharest, Romania.
