May 18 (SeeNews) - Moldova has extended the state of health emergency until June 30 and will keep its borders closed during this period, the government said.
The nationwide state of health emergency will be extended even further should the epidemiological situation get worse, the government said in a press release on Saturday.
Air, railway and road passenger services to and from Moldova will remain suspended and foreigners will be banned from entering the country until the end of June.
Since May 16, face masks became compulsory in public transport, commercial spaces and all enclosed public spaces. Schools and universities across the country will remain closed and mass events are prohibited.
However, authorities have eased some of the restrictive measures imposed since mid-March and allowed the reopening of barbershop services, for example.
As of Monday, coronavirus cases in the country have increased to 6,060, with most of the cases registered in Chisinau (1,854), Soroca (418) and Tiraspol (345), the health ministry said in its latest epidemiological situation update.
So far, Moldova has registered 211 deaths from the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), while 2,408 people have recovered.
Some 38,887 people are in self-isolation.
