December 6 (SeeNews) - Global technology company Mastercard said that it has launched the first remote digital identity service in North Macedonia allowing citizens to sign documents via smartphone.
Local lender NLB Banka is the first organisation in North Macedonia to use Mastercard's digital identification service, enabling the e-signing of legally binding agreements from consumers’ mobile devices, Mastercard said in a statement last week.
Mastercard's ID service in North Macedonia is operated by Bulgaria-based Evrotrust Technologies.
Mastercard added it will work with North Macedonia's ministry of information society and administration to expand its ID service to more banks, public institutions, mobile network operators, insurance companies, utility companies and investment funds in the country.
In 2020, Mastercard signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government of North Macedonia to provide a range of digital solutions in the country allowing its citizens to prove their identity when accessing government and business services.
Mastercard, a technology company in the global payments industry, is present in more than 210 countries and territories.
NLB Banka is part of Slovenian banking group Nova Ljubljanska Banka (NLB).
