May 31 (SeeNews) - Discount retail chain Lidl, part of Germany’s Schwarz Group, intends to open supermarkets in eight cities in North Macedonia as part of a 300 million euro ($366 million) investment plan, North Macedonia's prime minister, Zoran Zaev, said.
Lidl's first supermarket in North Macedonia will be in the capital Skopje, Zaev told a news conference streamed on the government's YouTube channel on Saturday.
The investor is currently in negotiations over the specific locations, the prime minister added.
North Macedonia's government announced in April that Lidl intends to open several stores and build a logistics centre in North Macedonia that will serve as a supply hub for the supermarket chain.
According to the country's central registry, Lidl established a Skopje-registered local subsidiary, Lidl Severna Makedonija, on February 16.
