The section is part of a planned 70-kilometre motorway from Vukosavlje to the border with Serbia that will ultimately connect the Serb Republic's main city of Banja Luka to the Serbian capital Belgrade. The motorway section from Brcko to the Serbian border is 37 kilometres in length. The two sections should be completed by 2030.
The Serb Republic is one of two autonomous entities that form Bosnia and Herzegovina. The other one is the Federation.
