Bosnia’s Telekom Srpske Picks Alcatel-Lucent to Enhance Network

“By consolidating IP and optical networks into a common highly leveraged IP network infrastructure, Telekom Srpske […] will be able to offer its residential and business customers advanced services such as High speed Internet, Voice over IP, business services and mobile backhaul for 3G, all with the highest possible reliability and quality of service standards,” Alcatel-Lucent said on its website on Thursday.

“With ever-growing Internet traffic fueled by video and mobile broadband, we need to ensure our capacity matches the needs of our customers,” Predrag Culibrk, Telekom Srpske General Manager, said in the statement.

The new solutions will result in higher efficiency, greater resiliency, and lower complexity in addition to savings in power, space and operational complexity, the statement said.

Alcatel-Lucent (http://www.alcatel-lucent.com) is a worldwide provider of solutions to deliver voice, data and video communication services to end-users. It is incorporated on France and has operations in more than 130 countries.

Telekom Srpske, majority-owned by Serbia’s state-controlled telco Telekom Srbija, is Bosnia’s second-largest telecoms operator. It has clients mainly in Bosnia’s Serb Republic, which together with the Muslim-Croat Federation forms war-divided Bosnia.

The country has two other telecoms companies, both state-controlled, operating in the Federation: the biggest one, BH Telecom, and a smaller company, HT Mostar.
