SARAJEVO (Bosnia and Herzegovina), June 14 (SeeNews) - The gross written premiums (GWPs) of insurance companies operating in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Federation rose 9.7% year-on-year to 251.16 million marka ($134.4 million/128.4 million euro) in the January-May period, official data showed.

Non-life insurance premiums increased 7.9% on the year to 194.68 million marka in the period under review, while life insurance premiums went up 16.2% to 56.48 million marka, according to figures posted on the website of the Federation’s insurance supervision agency.

Adriatic Osiguranje was the top insurer in the non-life segment with GWPs of 26.4 million marka in the first five months, up from 24.2 million marka a year earlier. It was followed by Sarajevo Osiguranje and Euroherc Osiguranje, with premiums of 24.99 million marka and 23.3 million marka, respectively.

In the life insurance segment, Sarajevo-based Grawe Osiguranje ranked first with 13.7 million marka in premiums in January-May, up from 12.9 million marka in the same period of 2021. It was followed by Uniqa Osiguranje and Triglav Osiguranje, with life premiums of 12.1 million marka and 11.4 million marka, respectively.

At the end of May, 20 insurance companies operated in Bosnia’s Federation.

The Federation and the Serb Republic are two autonomous entities that form Bosnia and Herzegovina.
