May 14 (SeeNews) - The European Commission (EC) said on Tuesday it has signed an association agreement with Bosnia and Herzegovina, paving the way for the country to participate in the EU-funded Digital Europe programme.

Bosnia to join EU’s Digital Europe programme

Once the ratification processes are completed, the association agreement will enter into force retroactively from January 1, 2024, the Commission said in a notice.

Participation in the Digital Europe programme will enable businesses, public administrations and other eligible organisations in Bosnia to respond to calls within the programme, which has an overall budget of 7.5 billion euro ($8.1 billion) for the 2021-2027 period.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage in projects deploying digital technologies across the EU, focusing on specific areas like artificial intelligence and advanced digital skills, or to establish digital innovation centers in Bosnia.
