July 24 (SeeNews) - Slovenian steel producer Slovenska Industrija Jekla (SIJ) has suspended the production activities of stainless steel unit SIJ Acroni due to an accident at its hot rolling mill, SIJ said.
On July 13, an accident caused a major damage to the main engine of the rolling frame in the hot rolling mill of SIJ Acroni, which will lead to the temporary suspension of an important part of production, presumably for up to three months, SIJ said in a filing with the Ljubljana Stock Exchange on Friday.
There were no injured persons during the incident, SIJ said.
The event will cause greater economic damage to the operations of the SIJ Group but no layoffs are foreseen and it will not affect the timely fulfillment of obligations, the company noted.
The SIJ Group is the largest vertically integrated metallurgical group in Slovenia, occupying with its products leading positions on European and global niche steel markets.
