January 21 (SeeNews) - Russian gas deliveries to Slovenia were resumed late on Tuesday after a two-week suspension, the country’s main gas importer Geoplin said on Wednesday.
“Geoplin started receiving gas from the Russian Federation again on January 20, 2009, at 1700 (1600 GMT), a day after a deal between the Russian Federation and Ukraine was reached,” Geoplin said in a statement.
The flow of Russian gas to the Alpine country was halted two weeks ago, following a dispute between Russia and Ukraine over unpaid bills and transit prices.
Thanks to the diversification of its supply sources and contracts for additional gas deliveries, Geoplin managed to meet domestic demand and offset the negative consequences of the halt in Russian gas deliveries, the statement added.
Geoplin provides 95% of gas supplies distributed in Slovenia.
