January 20 (SeeNews) - German industrial group Siemens will shut down its STS plant in Slovenia by the end of September after talks on the plant's sale with the Slovenian railways operator, Slovenske Zeleznice, have failed, local news agency STA reported.
Siemens first negotiated with a potential buyer from Korea, but the company, Heung Il, backed out of talks due to the global financial crisis. Talks with Slovenske Zeleznice broke up last week, STA reported.
According to STA, the plant employs 322. STS workers called on the government to prevent the liquidation of the company with a 145-year tradition in train building, the agency reported. STS is located in Slovenia's second-largest city of Maribor.
