September 26 (SeeNews) - The Romanian leu lost ground versus the euro on Wednesday in high liquidity, dealers said.
The local currency closed at 4.5160/5180 per euro compared to 4.5090/4.5110 on Tuesday.
The leu opened at an intraday high 4.5100/5130 per euro and depreciated during the day, touching an intraday low of 4.5210, a local dealer told SeeNews.
The resistance level for the leu is 4.52 per euro, the dealer said.
Romania's central bank, BNR, set its reference exchange rate at 4.5168 lei per euro on Wednesday, compared to 4.5144 lei on Tuesday. For the U.S. dollar, BNR set the reference exchange rate at 3.5079 lei versus 3.4999 lei on Tuesday.
Turnover on the Romanian interbank leu deposit market fell to 1.5 billion lei on Tuesday from 1.7 billion lei on Monday. The central bank will issue Wednesday's turnover figure on Thursday.
Interest rates on overnight leu deposits decreased to 4.63%/5.13% on Wednesday from 4.72%/5.22% on Tuesday.
