April 9 (SeeNews) - Croatian provider of electric vehicle (EV) technology solutions announced on Tuesday a long-term partnership with BMW Group to provide high-voltage battery units for the German automotive manufacturer’s model generations slated for the second half of this decade.
"As part of its ongoing mission to push the boundaries of EV technology, Rimac Technology is embarking on the next stage of development by delivering greater volumes of advanced battery systems," Rimac Technology said in a press release. "This collaboration with BMW Group marks a significant milestone for Rimac Technology, as it represents the largest and most ambitious project the company has undertaken to-date," it added.
Such development requires the establishment of sophisticated automated production lines for batteries at the Rimac Campus near the Croatian capital Zagreb. A significant portion of the campus will be dedicated to this project, underlining the company's commitment to the partnership with BMW Group.
Rimac Technology believes that the respective strengths and expertise of the two companies complement each other in a productive way. The BMW Group brings to the partnership expertise in battery and electric drive systems amassed over more than 15 years.
The two partners will release more details about what form the strategic tie-up will take, as well as its scope and content, at a later stage, Rimac Technology said.
The Rimac Group, led by CEO Mate Rimac, is the majority shareholder of Bugatti Rimac, which produces the Bugatti Chiron, and the sole stakeholder of Rimac Technology.
Rimac Technology, which is fully owned and operated by the Rimac Group, is a leading provider of electrification technologies, with a strong focus on engineering, development, production, and supply of battery systems and electric drive units. Rimac Technology has recently expanded its portfolio by establishing the Rimac Energy division. This division is dedicated to advancing Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) technology, focusing on designing, developing, and manufacturing innovative stationary BESS solutions entirely within Europe.
