July 6 (SeeNews) - Microsoft Romania said on Monday it has bought the local operations of Finnish software engineering and design services company Movial for an undisclosed sum.
Movial's office in Iasi will become Microsoft's fourth research and development centre in the region, Microsoft Romania said in a press release.
Following the deal, 60 Movial Iasi employees will join Microsoft Devices, in order to continue the company's investment the development of Android-based platforms.
"We are excited to continue to expand Microsoft's presence in Romania and would like to welcome these new employees of Microsoft Romania, " Microsoft Romania CEO Violeta Luca said.
This expansion is based on a sustained effort of Microsoft in Romania in the last two decades and comes to recognize the talent and expertise of Romanian specialists in the field of technology, the company said.
Founded in 2001 in Helsinki, Movial is a global software engineering and design services company specializing in mobile and embedded devices, with expertise in multimedia and communications systems, and capable in OS, driver and application layers.
Movial established a Romanian subsidiary in 2009. The company also has offices also in Taipei, San Francisco and Seattle.
Microsoft opened its first office in Romania in 1996. Currently, Microsoft Romania has over 1,700 employees based in Bucharest and Timisoara.
