September 27 (SeeNews) - Macedonia posted a budget deficit of 9.8 billion denars ($178.6 million/159.3 million euro) for the January-August period, compared to a shortfall of 12.8 billion denars a year ago, according to preliminary data from the country's finance ministry.
Total revenue rose 6.2% year-on-year to 110.6 billion denars, while total expenditure increased 3% to 120.4 billion denars, figures show.
Macedonia's parliament approved a second budget revision for 2016 last week, increasing planned expenditures to 197.4 billion denars from the prevoiusly projected 195.5 billion denars, while keeping revenues unchanged at 174.3 billion denars.
Thus, the budget gap is expected to widen to 23.1 billion denars from the previously projected 21.2 billion denars. The revision was made in order to reflect increased expenditure called for by last month's devastating floods in the country.
