January 20 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov will accept the resignation of Foreign Minister Rumyana Zheleva, submitted a day earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov said on Wednesday.
Zheleva's resignation will be accepted later on Wednesday after the GERB political party, which nominated her to the post, took the political decision the previous evening, Tsvetanov, who is also an Interior Minister and deputy chairman of GERB, told a morning programme of state-run TV broadcaster BNT.
Boyko Borisov, the head of GERB, is still to name Bulgaria's new Foreign Minister.
"There is no concrete favourite for the post and that is why I would not like to disclose any name today," Tsvetanov said.
Zheleva, who was the country's nominee for European Union Commissioner, tabled her resignation on Tuesday after failing to convince members of the European Parliament she qualified for the post of International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response Commissioner in a hearing before the parliament's Development Committee last week. Some members of the European Union legislature also raised questions about her previous business background.
Borisov accepted her resignation as Commissioner-designate the same day but the government's press office said in a statement she would carry on as Foreign Minister.
Following Zheleva's resignation, Borisov nominated current World Bank Vice-Presient Kristalina Georgieva as Bulgaria's candidate for European Commissioner.
