September 22 (SeeNews) - Foreign remittances to Macedonia via legal channels reach 400 million dollars (355.8 million euro) per year, which is equivalent to around 4% of the country's GDP, a survey by Skopje-based research institute Finance Think showed.
Macedonian households receive an average of about 2,500 euro in foreign remittances every year, according to the results of the think-tank's latest survey which were presented on Thursday.
Most of the money comes from Macedonian emigrants living in Europe, USA, Australia, and Qatar.
A similar amount of money enters Macedonia through illegal channels, the research institute noted.
