TIRANA (Albania), May 28 (SeeNews) – Global consultancy Ernst&Young (EY) has signed an agreement with Albania’s government to help it deal with economic and financial crime, tax evasion, money laundering and corruption, prime minister Edi Rama said on Monday.
EY will provide a team of experts to work closely with Albania’s institutions towards increasing their capacity to fight economic crime, Rama said in a statement, following the signing of the agreement in Tirana.
The cooperation aims to strengthen law enforcement as a key factor for boosting Albania's economic development and the well-being of its citizens and will have a great impact in the country's EU integration process, the statement added.
Albania’s economic growth potential is heavily hampered by unfair competition from the informal sector, political instability and widely spread corruption, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development said in a working paper on Western Balkans published in March.
