TIRANA (Albania), March 31 (SeeNews) – Albania has suspended a tender for a concession contract for the construction, operation and maintenance of an international airport in the southwestern port city of Vlora after the deadline for submitting bids was extended twice, the infrastructure ministry said on Tuesday.
The tender was suspended until further notice, the ministry said in a tender notice without giving a reason for its decision.
The ministry previously postponed the deadline to March 30 from March 12.
The proposed term of the concession agreement will be 35 years under a build-operate-transfer (BOT) model, infrastructure minister Belinda Balluku said in December.
In 2019, the Albanian government failed to conclude negotiations with a Turkish consortium for construction of Vlora airport, an investment estimated at 100 million euro ($112.3 million).
Currently, Tirana International Airport Mother Teresa is Albania's only operational airport.
