May 8 (SeeNews) - The number of tourists staying in Romania rose 2.4% year-on-year to 2.47 million in the first three months of 2024, the statistical board, INS, said on Wednesday.
Tourists spent 4.67 million overnights in Romania in the January-March period, up 2.4% on the year, INS said in a statement.
Foreign tourists accounted for 16.8% of arrivals at Romanian accommodation units.
The number of foreign tourists arriving from the EU represented 57% of all foreign tourist arrivals after increasing by an annual 11.4%.
The number of tourists arriving from Asia plummeted by an annual 29.9% to 35,600, while associated overnight stays in Romania slumped by 31.6% to 99,300.
In March alone, the number of tourists staying in Romania rose 4.9% on the year to 854,900, while associated overnight stays increased by 5.1% to 1.6 million.

In 2023, the number of tourists staying in Romania grew by 10.5% on the year to 13.65 million.
