In 2010 energy generated from renewable energy sources (RES) in Southeastern Europe (SEE) was produced mainly in hydro power plants (HPPs). The share of other RES, such as wind and solar energy, also started to gather pace, especially in Romania and Bulgaria.
The major foreign companies in SEE's energy sector are CEZ Group (Czech Republic), Enel Green Power SpA (Italy), Iberdrola Renovables SAU (Spain) and AES Corporation (USA).
Bosnia and Herzegovina had the largest number of employees in the energy sector as a share of the population - 3.43%, followed by Montenegro with 2.64% and Macedonia with 2.24%.
