PODGORICA (Montenegro), April 7 (SeeNews) – The Montenegrin central bank said it has issued a licence to Ziraat Bank Montenegro, a unit of Turkey’s Ziraat Bankasi.
The central bank provided no further details in a statement posted on its website on Monday.
Local daily Pobjeda reported earlier that Ziraat applied for a licence to open a bank in Podgorica in mid-December.
In early February, the Montenegrin central bank issued a licence to another new bank, Zapad Banka, which local media reported was set up with Ukrainian capital.
Prior to the issuance of the two new licences, twelve commercial banks operated in Montenegro, a country of around 630,000.
